"I fully support the efforts which parents and many other people are making to ensure that there is a wider choice of good quality secondary schools for their children to choose from. Not every family wants to send their children to schools with more than a thousand pupils. Many parents who have chosen to make their homes in rural communities would prefer a smaller school in a more rural setting. That diversity of choice is what this campaign is seeking to provide."

SOS (Save Our School) Stoke-By-Nayland are a group of parents and friends of Stoke-By-Nayland Middle School, one of the most successful high achieving schools in the area,  who have come together to try and preserve choice for parents and children, and stop a closure which will attacks a rural community with a (currently) exciting and vibrant economy.

In 2013,  Suffolk County Council will be reorganising the school system from a 3 tier system to a 2 tier system.

In the County Council cabinet meeting in May the cabinet voted to confirm the closing of the middle school, but also voted unanimously recognise the possibility of an 11-16 free school on the site and to instruct their officers to work constructuively with our group during the application process.

We feel this is an extremely positive stance from the council and the community are in a very unusual position in South Suffolk to have this co-operation, in contrast with many other free school groups around the country.

We feel that there are great NEW opportunities for an 11-16 secondary school appropriately serving a rural area, and giving choice to the community who were born here, or have made the work or lifestyle choice to come and live here.
