SOS SBN Supporters

"I fully support the efforts which parents and many other people are making to ensure that there is a wider choice of good quality secondary schools for their children to choose from. Not every family wants to send their children to schools with more than a thousand pupils. Many parents who have chosen to make their homes in rural communities would prefer a smaller school in a more rural setting. That diversity of choice is what this campaign is seeking to provide."

Dear All,

Thank you for your support for the campaign. It's been a whirlwind 2 weeks and we're amazed with what has been achieved so far.
Penny's Facebook page has over 800 supporters in just over a week.
The website is up and running: www.sos-stoke-by-nayland.org
Abigail has been working on stats and figures and many others have been researching, contributing information and helping spread the word.
Thanks you to everyone.

Meanwhile, we've been working with the press, Tim Yeo, the CLARE group, the SABRES group, meeting our local county councillor, local businesses, the SOR project leader, soon the county council cabinet and many others.
Don't want to get too carried away, but, this is getting exciting now. The campaign has really been noticed and has been taken very seriously, as it should, because it has real substance and support.

Next Steps:

  1. We have created a little flyer that you can print off and give to as many people as possible. We have also created an A4 poster to put up in and around you local community. You can download it from the website front page.
  2. Make sure you send your SOR response in. Click suffolk SOR to fill it in online, or go to the website. As your freinds as well
  3. Write to/email your county councillor. Their details are on the website as well.

If you're getting writers block about the response, here's some of our thoughts on this distilled into a few points.

  • Shutting this school is an attack on the rural community.
  • It will have an effect on the local community and economy
  • Not every parent feels that a large school of 1200-1500 is appropriate for their children
  • There is a great NEW opportunity for an 11-16 high school suited to the needs of the entire rural community, and to supplement the other 2 tier schools in the area in the delivery of the 17 lines of learning.
  • This is about choice
  • This is about standards for our children

We feel that there are now great opportunities and compelling reasons for a high school to remain in your community.

Keep up the good work and please feel free to forward this email to the world, to infinity, and beyond.

Many thanks,
